KOTA KINABALU: IEEE Sabah Subsection, in collaboration with Faculty of Engineering (FKJ), Universiti Malaysia Sabah had successfully held the 4th IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Engineering and Technology (IICAIET 2022) this September. The IICAIET conference series has gained great interests from scholars, researchers, academicians, professionals, and students in the Asia-Pacific Region, covering all technical areas related to Artificial Intelligence.
This year, IICAIET is celebrating its 20th anniversary, since the first ICAIET conference was held in 2022 in Kota Kinabalu, which was co-organized by the the Artificial Intelligence Research Unit (AiRU) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). ICAIET was subsequently held biannually in 2004 and 2006. With the establishment of the IEEE Sabah Subsection in 2018, ICAIET was then rebranded as IICAIET with IEEE sponsorship. IICAIET was subsequently held in 2020 before changing into annual event in 2021.
“This year, IICAIET 2022 received 250 papers submitted for technical peer review with the acceptance rate of 62.8%. A total of 134 accepted papers were presented orally in 27 technical sessions during 13 to 15 September 2022, which consists of 65 overseas and 69 local registrations. These few days, we have witnessed conference participants from 14 countries, which are Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Malaysia,” said the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Prof. Ir. Dr. Rosalam Hj. Sarbatly, to congratulate IICAIET 2022 to mark their historical moment of receiving the most paper submissions in IICAIET history this year.
“IICAIET has become an important platform to exchange and discuss new ideas, opinions, and prospects in Artificial Intelligence. Recent engineering advances has contributed significantly to the revolution of human civilization and development. The impact was tremendous that required recent development of artificial intelligence (AI) to be applied immediately in almost every aspect of social and industry activities. The concept of AI started in the 1950 with the publication of Computing Machinery and Intelligence by Alan Turing. In the paper he proposed to answer the question “can machine think” with a test, called the Turing test. It has been a steadily growing field of research ever since. As such, we hope that the organization of the IICAIET 2022 continually contributes positively to the development of this field worldwide,” the Dean of Faculty of Engineering (FKJ), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Ismail Saad shared his words of motivation during the IICAIET 2022.
The conference chair of IICAIET 2022 and current IEEE Sabah Subsection chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenneth Teo Tze Kin wished to acknowledge the contribution of the esteemed keynote speakers in sharing their knowledge with the participants, which will spark new possibilities, linking great ideas through IICAIET 2022. He said: “We are honoured to have 3 keynote speakers and 1 technical speaker with us this year. They are Prof. Dr. Mehdi Bennis (University of Oulu, Finland); Prof. Dr. Sazali Yaacob (University Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute, Malaysia); Assoc Prof. Ir. Dr. Rosdiazli Ibrahim (Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia), and Dr. David Leal-Ayala (Policy Links (Institute for Manufacturing), University of Cambridge, United Kingdom). I believe their sharing will hugely benefit us in future AI technologies and applications.”
